None of it made it feasible for me to perform Calculus or perhaps pre-Cal at the college level.Why?Did my Bs actually indicate proficiency from the 5 math courses I took in high school or did I just signify that I did my homework & my test grades werent so terrible that they brought down my average to a D?Going through the material of every class wasnt sufficient for me.Im not entirely innumerate and I really did my homework.Why didnt that effort = sufficient mastery of those subjects that taking a slightly more complex version in faculty wasnt beyond me. Unless I have some bizarre learning disability, I think Im a good example to study concerning the mismatch between high school performance & what can be anticipated at the college level especially with math b/c a class in study skills cant fix this.Also, my IQ is certainly above average & Ive consistently performed well on the mathematics sections of directional tests.I believe part of the problem is grade inflation at good schools.I understand I wasnt goal enough to think that the average of my evaluation scores was the way I should really evaluate my ability. Then theres the practical, concrete mathematics that many children who will pass Algebra I could likely do well.Business math is really difficult yet I think that its just an optional if taken in large school.Give a concretely numerate child a year of business mathematics, a semester or a year old bookkeeping/accounting and some algebra and that kid might go to work right after graduation or at least make informed decisions regarding credit and education loans.I understand it can be useful to challenge pupils to address difficult problems but some schooling theorists feel that theres even an optimal amount of frustration – too simple, the student is exhausted, too hard, the student feels defeated.Then you’ve got oddballs like me who get a number of the mathematics but not each of the math.Did I’ve a high fever at age 5 who damaged the part of my brain responsible for doing matrix issues yet left me capable of understanding asymptotes? Its brutally unfair that knowing some of it’s no better than understanding not one of it of course to improve your standardized test scores so long as you know personally that your mathematics score does not have any real world value and taking a mathematics course despite assumed, yet not real math capacity will cause disaster.
